WATERBURY – The "Sound of Great Musicals" will echo throughout Greater Waterbury during the Palace Theater's upcoming 2016-2017 Webster Broadway Series. The newly announced theatrical season features two-week long performance runs and five national tours that will make their Waterbury debut beginning in the Fall 2016.
The series kicks-off in October with DIRTY DANCING (Oct. 8-9), the sensational screen to stage musical adaptation that promises audiences the "time of their lives," followed by a week-long presentation of KINKY BOOTS (Dec. 6-11), Cindy Lauper's six-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical that has been lifting theatergoers' spirits to new high-heeled heights since its Broadway debut in 2012. The series continues in February with four enchanting performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein's fairytale classic CINDERELLA (Feb. 24-26) before the classic American writing duo returns in March with a weeklong presentation of the musical that tops everyone's list of "favorite things," THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Mar. 7-12). The series concludes in the spring with the eight-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical ONCE (Apr. 7-8), the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician, who is about to give up on his dream when a beautiful woman takes a sudden interest in his love songs.
In addition to the five national tours slated for next season, the Palace Theater also revealed that it will present the exclusive 2017 Connecticut engagement of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Broadway's hauntingly beautiful and longest running musical of all time.
