Grammy award-winning saxophonist Lauren Sevian has been performing professionally since the age of 12, first on the piano, then on the saxophone. At 16, she won the Count Basie Invitational soloing competition, and by 17, she had already performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Village Vanguard.
A graduate of the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, Lauren toured with the critically-acclaimed big band, Diva, during her senior year of college, before touring nationally and internationally as a regular member of the Mingus Big Band. In addition to appearing in movies like Julia Robert's Mona Lisa Smile, she has performed with vocalist Jane Monheit as part of the group Jane Monheit and the Ladies of Jazz and has backed up artists such as Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley. Nominated from 2008-present as Downbeat Critics Poll's “rising star” baritone saxophone, she has received numerous awards throughout her career including a SESAC jazz award and a Grammy for the Mingus Big Band’s “Live at the Jazz Standard.”
