CONTACT: Sheree Marcucci (203) 755-8483 X 133 marcucci@palacetheaterct.org Page, Stage and Family Fun Palace Hosts Book Fair Fundraiser at Local Barnes & Noble Waterbury – Two well-known literary names will spring to life on the Waterbury Barnes & Noble stage during the Palace Theater’s Book Fair fundraising event on Friday, August 4, from 9am to 11pm.
The event, which will raise funds for the theater’s Education Series Ticket and Travel Subsidy Fund, features two in-store presentations highlighting shows coming to the Palace in the Fall.
At 10am and 7pm, families are invited to watch Watertown High School drama student Arielle Polites take on the role of Amber Brown from the best-selling children’s series, Amber Brown Is Not a Crayon by Paula Danziger. Dressed in character, Polities will act out excerpts from the book and provide an activity for kids in the audience. The reading will take place in the children’s area of the Waterbury store.
At 4pm, Adults are invited to listen to CPTV Executive Producer Larry Rifkin read excerpts from the Santaland Diaries, one of the works by best-selling author, playwright and humorist David Sedaris. Sedaris, whose sardonic wit and keen observations have made him a popular guest on National Public Radio, opens the Palace Theater’s 06-07 season on September 30. He has been critically acclaimed as a master of satire and one of the most insightful writers addressing the human condition today. Customers attending the Book Fair event must bring a Barnes & Noble Book Fair voucher to ensure a percentage of their in-store purchases are credited to the Palace Theater’s Ticket and Travel Subsidy Fund. The Fund provides financial assistance to non-for-profit organizations and Title One Schools who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend theater performances. Money raised at the event will help subsidize ticket and bus costs for these organizations, allowing more students to experience Palace Study Hall Education Series Presentations. Vouchers must be presented during checkout at the Book Fair. The theater will receive a percentage of all the day’s sales that were accompanied by a voucher at checkout. Book Fair vouchers can be picked up at the theater’s box office, located at 100 East Main Street. Vouchers can also be downloaded from the Palace Theater’s website under the School and Community menu at www.palacetheaterct.org or can be clipped from the Book Fair ads that will appear in the Republican-American newspaper on August 1, in the Today’s Woman section; the Weekend section on August 3 or in the local section on August 4th. # # #
