The workshops, which feature an array of topics and guest speakers from community theaters, are value added education programs incorporated into the collaborative partnership between the Palace Theater and WAMS. The theme of this year’s series focuses on the differences and similarities between a community house and a presenting house in the world of theater.
Students received their first behind-the-scenes lesson in researching and booking productions for community theater, when Thomaston Opera House Marketing Director Sharon Wilcox presented the kick-off collaborative workshop on December 15. Students learned how and why certain shows are selected for a fiscal year at the Opera House and why others are not.
In addition to understanding the various factors used in building a full presentation season at a community theater, students also gained insight into other performing arts departments, including administration, production, marketing, and directing.
