WATERBURY – Waterbury Arts Magnet School (WAMS) students learned a lesson about real life auditions, when Southington Community Youth Theater alumni, Hannah Fuerst, delivered the second in a series of five Palace Theater Broadway-related workshops, on Friday, January 5.
A vocal student at the Manhattan School of Music, Fuerst offered students an in-depth look at the audition processes for both college theater programs and professional auditions. Divulging personal experiences and advice, Fuerst spoke to students about the significance foreign language courses and history play in recreating characters for the stage, as well as the importance of preparation before auditions. Students were also entertained by Fuerst’s humorous anecdotes and personal methods for curing an up and coming actor’s worst enemy: stage fright. Following her educational and interactive discussion, Fuerst participated in a Question and Answer segment with students, which included a vocal warm up and a performance of an aria she has been preparing. The workshops, which feature an array of topics and guest speakers from community theaters, are value added education programs incorporated into the collaborative partnership between the Palace Theater and WAMS. The theme of this year’s series focuses on the differences and similarities between community houses and presenting houses in the theater world. A Southington, Connecticut native, Fuerst made her musical debut in the title role of Annie at JFK Middle School. Since then she has appeared in How to Succeed in Business…., Oliver!, Les Miserables and more with the Southington Community Youth Summer Theater and Southington High School drama club. A classical singer, Fuerst graduated from the Harrt School Performer’s Certificate Program in 2004 and is currently pursuing her bachelor of music degree at the Manhattan School of Music. # # #
