WATERBURY – The Palace Theater is hosting a middle and high school Teacher Professional Development Workshop dedicated to the literary and historical importance of memoir writing on Wednesday, March 14, from 2:00pm- 5:00pm in theater’s private Poli Club. The program will integrate social studies lessons from the Holocaust with language arts lessons based on The Diary of Anne Frank. The workshop, titled “FROM THEIR LIVES TO YOURS: MEMOIR WRITING” will be presented by Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism Master Teaching Artist Bessy Reyna, who will introduce participants to the personal importance of memoir writing and how to keep a living record of their family history. Reyna will briefly discuss the memoir genre in general and its value within contemporary literature, while presenting various writers’ pre-existing works as catalysts for the program’s writing exercises. Teachers will be able to utilize the knowledge acquired from this workshop to create arts and academic integrated lesson plans for their students. “FROM THEIR LIVES TO YOURS: MEMOIR WRITING” is sponsored by The Waterbury CT Teachers Federal Credit Union and was designed as an educational supplement to the Palace’s ShopRite Education Series presentation of James Still’s historical and dramatic play, “And Then They Came For Me.”. The workshop costs $25 and is free for teachers who booked tickets to “And Then They Came For Me,” on May 17 at the Palace Theater. In the event of a snow storm, the program will be rescheduled for Wednesday, March 21. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling the Palace Theater Box Office at 203-755-8483 Ext 134. ### About the Palace Theater The Palace’s primary purpose is to revitalize the Greater Waterbury community through the presentation of the performing arts and educational initiatives in collaboration with area cultural and educational institutions.
