FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 15, 2007 CONTACT: Sheree Marcucci (203) 755-8483 x 133 marcucci@palacetheaterct.org Palace Theater Awarded TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation Program Grant WATERBURY – The Palace Theater is pleased to announce that the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation has awarded the organization with a $15,000 grant to support the in-school arts and education program Role Playing – Playing a Role. Role Playing – Playing a Role is a theater and academic program in collaboration with Shakesperience Productions Inc that incorporates the historical elements of The Diary of Anne Frank and the dramatic work “And Then They Came For Me,” with seventh and eighth grade curriculum, WWII history and the creative process of the stage. This integrated curriculum is designed to encourage students to develop their own thoughts on social issues affecting their society, while teaching them how to articulate these opinions through theatrical role playing, memoir writing and character development techniques. As a result of the award, 300 Greater Waterbury area students from Woodbury Middle School, Westside Middle Schools and other participating schools will participate in four interactive workshops that combine the art of theater with the academic subjects of history and language arts. Students will partake in a meet and greet with “And Then They Came For Me” director, Kim West, where they will learn the importance of self-discipline and dedication in achieving success in the performing arts industry. Students will then execute lessons learned throughout the program to create their own poetry, memoirs and other works of art. Role Playing – Playing a Role will culminate in April with an all-day inspirational and educational field trip to the Palace Theater dedicated to Holocaust Remembrance Day, featuring Holocaust survivor and Lecturer on Man’s Inhumanity to Man, Joe Korzenik. TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation partners with area non-profit and public institutions to create lasting and meaningful change and improvement in their communities by way of financial and non-financial support. Tickets for the May 17 presentation of “And Then They Came For Me” are $8.00 and on sale now at the Palace Theater Box Office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 203-755-4700.
