‘WIZARD OF OZ’ TRAVELS OVER THE RAINBOW TO WATERBURY
Classic Family Musical Twists its Way to the Palace in November
WATEBURY - There truly is no place like home as the greatest family musical of all time, the wonderful WIZARD OF OZ, twists its way into Waterbury for five performances at the Palace Theater November 7-9. The exclusive Connecticut engagement of this all new production on National Tour will be the first show featured in the Palace’s 2008-2009 Broadway Series with Opening Night sponsored by Waterbury Hospital and additional support from media sponsor WTNH/MyTV9.
The entire family will be captivated as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road and beyond with Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow in this lavish production, featuring breathtaking special effects, dazzling choreography and classic songs. Based on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s celebration of the iconic 1939 MGM film, THE WIZARD OF OZ guarantees to blow audiences away from the moment the tornado touches down and transports them to a dazzling art deco Oz, complete with munchkins and flying monkeys.
Director Nigel West, choreographer Leigh Constantine and set and costume designer Tim McQuillen-Wright utilize the glamour and elegance of art deco Hollywood as the visually stunning Technicolor backdrop for the musical. Featuring the classic songs “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” and “If I Only Had A Brain,” as composed by Harold Arlen, THE WIZARD OF OZ will have the entire family clicking their heels but never wanting to go home.
Tickets are $58, $53, and $48, and can be purchased by phone at 203-755-4700, online at www.palacetheaterct.org, or in person at the Palace Theater Box Office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury. Groups of 20 or more qualify for special discounts and should call the Group Sales Hotline at 203-755-8483 x 134.
