Fall Jazz Series: Matt & Atla DeChamplain CD ReleaseOctober 02, 2015
Join jazz pianist Matt DeChamplain and his vocalist wife, Atla, as they debut their first album together with an intimate CD release party in the Palace Poli Club. Guests will enjoy a complimentary food station featuring barbecue fare from Smokin' with Chris while the couple performs selections from their new album.
Matt DeChamplain is a jazz pianist rooted in the historic tradition of jazz piano masters like Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell, Hank Jones, Herbie Hancock and Art Tatum. He received his training at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts and at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School. Matt’s music is rooted in a profound love for the early jazz masters. What makes him unique is his application of early jazz piano devices created by Ragtime, Blues and Stride musicians. His love of classic jazz piano inspires him to pursue a thorough musicianship that fuses traditional elements with modern jazz concepts.
Atla DeChamplain studied under jazz legend Jon Hendricks at the University of Toledo and at the Hartt School of Music and formed a trio with Matt DeChamplain and Adam Cote. She has worked under bassist Nat Reeves, trombonist Steve Davis and vocalist Dena DeRose.
