Gina Barreca's Fast Series of Flash Fiction anthologies are essays that sweep us into arms of provocative, smart, funny, and brave women.

Fast Fierce Women, Fast Funny Women, and the upcoming Fast Fallen Women, contain stories that'll leave us delighted, consoled, and inspired. Perfect for students of writing, writers of humor, and all readers who welcome laughter, insight, and perspective into their lives.

Barreca’s appearance will be an “in conversation with” format led by the anthologies’ publisher David LeGere of Woodhall Press. Joining Gina on stage will be three emerging authors featured in one or more of her anthologies: Ash Carrington, a recent UConn grad and writer of non-fiction and drama (Black People Don’t Do This); Nicole Catarino, a poet and writer pursuing a Master’s degree from LSU; and the Palace Theater’s own Sheree Marcucci. Through their essays you’ll learn how a fierce woman —whatever world she comes from and whatever age she happens to be — uses creativity, wit, compassion, and generosity to draw herself up and draw her community together.

Other writers represented in the books are authors you know by heart: Pulitzer-Prize winner Jane Smiley, NYT bestselling novelists Marge Piercy, NPR’s Maureen Corrigan, award-winning poet Phillis Levin, and comic Leighann Lords.

Hailed as “smart and funny” by People, Gina Barreca was also deemed a “feminist humor maven” by Ms. Magazine, and her pieces for Psychology Today have received over 8.5 million views. Gina, who is the Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at UCONN as well as winner of its highest award for excellence in teaching, has written articles for The New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Independent of London, Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, The Harvard Business Review, Cosmopolitan, and pretty much everywhere else. Her ten books include Babes in Boyland: A Personal History of Coeducation in the Ivy League and the bestselling They Used to Call Me Snow White But I Drifted. You can find her in the Library of Congress or in the makeup aisle at Walgreens.
